The 2018 USA Swimming Winter National Championships have officially come to an end, and it was a major week of work and success for Team TYR. If you didn’t have a chance to follow the races, be sure to check out our video and day by day recap below!
Team TYR came out swinging on day one with Katie Ledecky and Ashley Twichell earning first and second place in the women’s 800m free.
On day two Katie went on to set a new pool record for her swim in the women’s 400m free, while Ashley made the podium in third. Simone also swam her way to first with an impressive win in the women’s 50m free.
Team TYR continued its streak well into the week as Katie Ledecky and Simone Manuel brought home first and second place in the women’s 200m freestyle. Winning the same race on the men’s side was none other than team TYR’s own Jacob Pebley. That same day Pebley also earned second in the men’s 100m backstroke.
With a staggering four additional national titles earned by TYR athletes on day four, it’s safe to say they finished strong. Dominating in the 100m free, Michael Chadwick and Simone Manuel each won for the men’s and women’s divisions respectively. Chadwick’s time ranked second in the world for this year. Ashley Twichell commanded the pool in the women’s 1500m free, while Jacob Pebley earned his second first place finish in the men’s 200m backstroke. In addition, Margo Geer scored a spot on the podium for her second place swim in the women’s 100m free.
It was a big week for Team TYR athlete and Momma on a Mission Dana Vollmer as she made her way back to the starting block for the first time since the birth of her second son, Ryker. With impressive times Dana once again proved that even after nearly two years away from racing the 100m fly, she remains a force to be reckoned with.
Katie Ledecky was the first athlete of the meet to qualify for Olympic Trials.
