When it comes to motivation, there are few athletes quite as dialed in as Team TYR’s own Cody Miller. From movies to training sets, he’s a guy who thrives on every opportunity to grow. So, it’s no wonder we’ve tapped this rising star for his latest list of must-reads.
To learn more about two of the inspirational books Cody swears by, read on below.
Can’t Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds by David Goggins
CM: The first book I would recommend is without a doubt Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins. In it the author, David Goggins, faces a series of tribulations that include everything from poverty to abuse. However, he manages to defy the odds and become a U.S. Armed Forces icon and one of the world’s top endurance athletes. Goggins’ story has inspired people to accomplish things they never before thought possible.
Throughout the book Goggins refers to his life experiences as “lessons that calloused his mind.” I find that perspective to be really powerful. Overall, the biggest takeaway I gained from this book is that the mind is far more powerful than we realize.
The Third Door: The Wild Quest to Uncover How the World’s Most Successful People Launched Their Careers by Alan Banayan
CM: The Third Door by Alan Banayan is by far the best book I have read in years. Centered around a college kid who dedicates his life to interviewing the world’s most successful business people, artists and athletes, this book is inspiring, gripping and absolutely fascinating! I couldn’t recommend it more to athletes who are eager to rise in every sense of the word.
