Team TYR superstar Ryan Lochte is officially a dad, and we couldn’t be more excited to congratulate him on his first Father’s Day! To celebrate, we sat down with Ryan to discuss how parenting prep and baby Caiden’s birth have impacted him and his family. For a behind-the-scenes look at our interview, read on below.
What was the lead up to having your first child like?
The lead up to having my first child required a lot of patience, mostly in terms of preparation. We wanted to make sure the nursery was perfect and the hospital bags were packed and ready to go well before the baby came.
How did you come up with Caiden’s name?
Kayla and I both liked the names Aiden and Cade so we decided to merge them together.
Who do you think he looks like more? You or Kayla?
Caiden has features from both of us and every day we see more of them. A friend of mine told me “Nine faces nine months”. So, I guess we will see different features as he grows!
How did your training schedule and life in general change when prepping for Caiden’s arrival?
I put training on hold leading up to Caiden’s birth. I wanted to make sure that I was completely there for Kayla and doing everything that I could to make her life easy as pie.
What does a training day look like for you now?
Now that Caiden is born I’m back in the water, I am back to training. I am doing a full schedule now which is an 8am-10 am swim practice, then 10:30-11:30 weights and then 2pm-4pm swim practice.
How do you plan on spending your first Father’s day?
I am spending my first Father’s Day in Palm Springs, CA at my fiancé grandparent’s house.
