With the TYR Pro Swim Series only a few days away, we want to make sure that every member of our team is feeling race day ready. Take care of your body! Make sure you’re hydrating, eating well and of course, getting a ton of sleep in the weeks leading up to the race. You want to feel ready from the inside out. With that said, try to stay clear of any foods that you don’t typically eat or that you know can make you feel sluggish or uncomfortable.

Use your last few practices to your advantage. During this point take some time to focus on going through the motions the same way you would on the day you compete. This will cut down on potential surprises and allow you to work through any kinks beforehand.

Try to keep the stress levels at bay. The process of doing this can often look different depending on the person, so whether it’s spending time with friends and family, decompressing with a book or a yoga class or having some fun with your pet- get those feel good activities on the calendar.

Pack with purpose. Be sure that you have everything you’ll need at the meet, and then some. It never hurts to have an extra pair of goggles and a suit in case of emergencies. Plus, don’t forget to include additional water and snacks if that is something you think you will need.

Get that playlist ready! Tuning out the external is one of the best ways to get yourself in the zone. For times like that, you need a playlist that pumps you up to perform. Give yourself time before your warm up on race day so you’re not feeling rushed. Arriving a few minutes early ensures that you have the opportunity to settle in and prepare. Go into this part of the day with a plan. Knowing exactly what you need to do to feel the most comfortable before you swim is essential to building confidence.

Run through your performance in your mind. Visualization is an incredible tool, and one tons of swimmers use to help them focus before they compete. Whether it’s calmly watching yourself swim with success or physically acting out the motions on dry land, hone in on what type of visualization works for you. 

Remember that you’ve done all of the hard work. You’ve trained, you’ve prepared and you’ve got this. Now, hit the starting block and of course, HAVE FUN!
