When it comes to race day, few things are as important as your gear. And for a competitive swimmer at any level, a well-fit tech suit is certainly at the top of the list. From maximized core stabilization to optimized body positioning in the water, a tech suit’s main function is to work in harmony with a swimmer’s natural abilities to aid in creating movement and mobility. However, if a suit is not properly sized and eased on correctly, rips or tearing may occur.

If there is one thing athletes know about TYR, it is that we aren’t afraid to stand out. From color to composition, everything we create is constructed to help you look and feel your best. So it is no wonder that we take the aesthetic of our swimsuits very seriously.
Designed here in-house, our swim prints are fully unique to our brand. But just how do our artists come up with the attention-grabbing designs you see year after year? Well, for starters it’s all about thinking outside of the box.
To give you an inside look at how one of our most popular training prints came to be, read on below.
WHAAM, a new print to hit shelves this year, began in what we believe to be a pretty unlikely place. Originally tasked with creating a competitive looking print for elite swimmers on the Olympic stage, our artists began by playing with the look and construction of traditional carbon fiber. Through a number of drafts and tons of research, they decided to add pop art elements that would afford swimmers the colorful details native to our brand.
While working to make this highly technical concept a bit more abstract and fun, the design team couldn’t resist adding in explosive imagery, reminiscent of old school comic books. Once they saw firsthand just how vibrant the print could be, they knew it would ultimately take on a life of its own. And from here, WHAAM was officially born.
Today, if you look closely at WHAAM you can still identify carbon fiber elements throughout its background. However, playing with size and color has helped this print to come alive in an entirely novel way. As a training suit the 100% Polyester construction still provides swimmers and triathletes with the durability they need for 300+ hours of performance. However, the playful aesthetic keeps things light for athletes who are ready to not just go through the motions, but truly enjoy their workout.
WHAAM is available for purchase on TYR.com and in a number of retail shops.
He may be young, but right now, Ben Kanute is on the top of the world. Prior to big finishes at the 2015 WTS Grand Final Chicago, 2015 WTS Auckland and 2014 Tongyeong World Cup, Kanute earned recognition as both a USAT Youth & Junior National Champion. Today, he’s taking his career to new heights, and we can’t be more pumped to see what he can do.

World Champions. So proud of my teammates who smashed it today. The #MixedRelay has been my favorite event for years, and to win it all today is amazing. Never been more honored to wear the Stars and Stripes and hold the American Flag than with these three #America ?:@tzaferes

When it comes to the sport of swimming, every practice is a full body workout. Since swimmers rely on the extension of their muscles to move through each stroke with power and speed, they benefit greatly from exercises that promote both strength and proper alignment. So, it’s no wonder water based athletes are turning to gentle alternatives to stretch and lengthen their muscles during dryland training.
Whether you’re an avid yogi or yet to touch a mat, giving yourself time to stretch can be a calming way to not only aid in recovery but also re-center the mind. For competitive swimmers, consistent training is the norm. However, constant strain on the body can often make athletes more susceptible to injury. To aid in pain prevention, try jumping into a yoga class or adding some of the poses below into your regular schedule.
If you’re unsure of where to begin, remember it never hurts to consult your coach or doctor before making additions to your workout, especially if you have or are recently coming off of an injury.
